In what is believed to be a politically motivated exercise, Governor Adams Oshiomhole (APC) of Edo State today issued an executive order stopping the nursing students of Igbinedion University, Okada from making use of the facilities of the state-owned Benin Central Hospital and the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.
The Igbinedion University’s School of Nursing has been in use since 2006 as part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Edo State Government and the University as part of conditions for the accreditation of the University’s programme by the Nigerian Universities Commission and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
The Whistle gathered that the decision was politically motivated as a result of his irreconcilabe differences and fallout with his former benefactor and godfather, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion whose daughter Omosede Igbinedion will be contesting for the Ovia Federal Constituency, House of Representatives seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Oshiomole however noted in his Executive Order that his decision was made in Public interest, stating that:
“In the circumstance, the government is left with no other option than terminate the MOU in public interest. The Ministry of Health has equally been directed to inform the Nigerian University Commission and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria that the Benin Central Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital will no longer be made available for the use of the medical students of Igbinedion University.”
We had earlier reported the wanton destruction of Professor Oshodin’s apartment by APC sponsored thugs in Edo State which led to protests by UNIBEN Students last week in the ongoing political drama orchestrated by the woman-go-and-die governor.
