Governor Aliyu Lays Foundation for the Construction of Grand Towers Shopping Mall at the Minna City Center

The Chief Servant and Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has laid the foundation stone for the building of Grand Tower Shopping Mall signaling the beginning of construction activities for the Minna City Center Project.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Aliyu unequivocally debunked insinuations making the rounds that he had shared lands to some prominent individuals at the old Minna Central Market site.

Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu denied giving land to Emir of Minna, Dr. Umar Faruk Bahago and two of his brothers at the market site describing such action as a breach of trust and urged people to shun such speculations adding that the old Minna Market site would continue to remain a commercial center to enhance economic growth of the state.

According to him, the Grand Towers Shopping Mall would be solely constructed by the Grand Towers Company Limited at the cost of about N5Billion, while the state government only provided the land, certificate of occupancy and security of the place.

He stated that the project was part of the urban center renewal program and Public Private Partnership (PPP) Initiative of his administration adding that plans were underway to construct a 25 Storey building at the city center and a cultural Hall at the site.

The Governor also announced that government had embarked on the construction of the Maitumbi-Maikunkele Eastern Bye-pass, Five-star Hotel, while the dualization of Sabon Gari Road and U.K. Bello to Ogbomosho Roads would soon commence.

In his remarks, the Chairman Minna City Center Project Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said the projects would consist of towers, convention center, eatery and parks as well as office accommodation to make Minna a livable city.

The Emir of Minna, Dr. Umar Faruk Bahago expressed appreciation for the initiative of government and assured of his councils support.

In his address, the Chairman of Grand Towers Limited, Mr. Eze Chinedu, who was represented by Mr. Uchenna Duru, said the Grand Towers Shopping Mall would consist of 5,000 shops, 10,000sq. Mtr parking space and assured that the project would be completed next year.
